Things to do in Middle GA – Visit the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame

The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame is located at 301 Cherry Street in Macon Georgia. It is both the official Georgia sports museum and the largest state sports museum in the state.

The museum stretches over 43,000 square feet and displays over 3,000 sports related memorabilia from Georgia and around the world.

Sports history, interesting displays, pristine artifacts, inductee tidbits, and a host of other interesting sports items await.

The museum currently showcases two temporary exhibits, the Art of Jack Davis (co-creator of Mad magazine) and Super Men: Georgia Football Greats in the NFL’s Biggest Game.

The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame’s first floor permanent exhibits include: the Hall of Fame Corridor, which serves as the heart of the museum; the Georgia Room, which is used primarily for meetings and special events; the Locker Room, which is a gift store; the Rotunda, which is the room that visitors walk into first; and the Theatre, which chronicles Georgia’s sports history.

The second floor tour consists of an Interactive Area, which is a kid area with a basketball court, football court, and Nascar simulator; and the Olympic/Paralympics, chronicles Georgia’s history at all of the major Olympic games since 1928.

Also included, and not to be missed on the HOF second floor tour is Professional Sports, which displays Georgia’s history in basketball, baseball, motor sports, boxing, hockey, golf and football; Collegiate Sports, which chronicles Georgia’s college athletics; and Great Moments in Georgia Sports, showcasing Georgia’s most memorable sports moments.
