What’s Happening in Centerville GA 31028
In the early 1800’s, the area now known as Centerville GA was settled by the Busbay family who appropriately called the area Busbayville. Back around 1885, the lone store owner, Mitchell Etheridge, tried to change the name to Centerville but was rebuked because a town by that name already existed in Georgia so he named the area after his oldest daughter, Hattie. In 1958, Hattie was incorporated and officially renamed Centerville.
Interestingly, the city is located halfway between Macon and Perry as well as midway between Byron and Warner Robins. It is made up of 2.8 miles of land, stretching westward down Watson Boulevard (GA State Route 247 Connector).
Once known as a “bedroom community” to Warner Robins, the area has grown tremendously in recent years. Centerville now boasts over 6,000 residents.
The Galleria Mall, which is the largest shopping mall in Houston County, is situated here and sees considerable traffic. Also available in Centerville is the Galleria Mall Stadium Cinema which is popular with movie buffs. Centerville is also the home of the newly constructed Centerville Library.
In recent years, Centerville Georgia has been developing the layout for a more modern downtown area. The plans includes a main road accented with buildings on both sides and street lamps, fountains, plants, and flowers to appeal to all age groups.
