The Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins GA is located 10 miles east of I-75 (exit 144) at the end of Russell Parkway, adjacent to Robins Air Force Base, in Warner Robins, Georgia. The museum is the 2nd largest U.S. Air Force museum. Not only is it one of the largest aviation museums in the U.S., it is one of only ten to be accredited by the  American Alliance of Museums.

Over thirty years ago the museum opened after extensive planning and preparation with twenty aircraft displays, and another twenty aircraft undergoing restoration. Today, the sprawling 51 acre complex is home to nearly 100 aircraft, 4,000 artifacts, 22 permanent displays, and over 200,000 square feet of exhibit and education space spanning a century of flight.

According to the museum, since it opened in 1984, “more than 13 million people from all over the world have visited the museum.” The Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins GA is the fourth most visited Department of Defense museum in the nation!

The Warner Robins Museum of Aviation is the official home of the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame, which was created in 1989 by Governor Joe Frank Harris. Museum of Aviation Events

The museum hosts over 650 community and veteran events each year, including military retirements, changes of command, and various conferences. Several hangars and event spaces are available for special events with rates depending on location within the museum.

The event spaces at the museum include:

  • Century of Flight – 600 Person Capacity

Educational Opportunties for Kids

The Museum of Aviation Education Center offers fifteen Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) centered programs for ages four and up under four main programs.

  • The first educational program is through the Aviation Heritage Center that provides guided tours and scout programs
  • The second program is geared towards school-aged children from kindergarten to 8th grade through the Georgia Youth Science and Technology Center
  • The third program is for kindergarten to 12th grade through the National STEM Academy that includes field trips and various simulations
  • The fourth program is the Department of Defense STARBASE ROBINS (STEM) program that provides 25 hours of STEM related activities to motivated students
  • STARBASE ROBINS also provides a program specifically for students in 5th grade with a hands-on science and math based curriculum, as well as the STARBASE 2.0 Afterschool STEM Mentoring Program

In addition, there are several other educational programs and events such as:

There are also STEM special event workshops offered for Pre-K to adults on Saturdays, student holidays, and throughout the summer. All of the programs are in accordance with Common Core Georgia Performance Standards.

Simulation and Outreach Programs

The museum offers various simulation programs for patrons to get hands on experience with various aircraft.

  • Interested students in grades 6th to 12th can participate in the Mission Quest Flight Simulation, which is a three-hour mission in a F-15E tactical fighter simulator, or the B-1 and B-2 bomber simulators
    • The minimum number of participants for the program is 10 and the maximum is 16 with a cost of $15 per student
  • Museum of Aviation, Warner Robins GA - GA HOFThe Mission Quest Activation Outreach program is also for students in grades 6th to 12th and is provided on a school site for 50 minutes in a F-15 cockpit
    • The program is available to a maximum of 25 students for a cost of $150
  • A three-hour Air Traffic Control Lab is available to grades 6th to 12th on Monday through Saturday from 9am to 12pm
    • Participants must schedule an appointment for the lab ahead of time and is open to a minimum of 6 students and a maximum of 14 for $15 per student
  • Adults are also able to participate through the 6-hour Mission Quest Team Building Program allowing participants to fly on B-1, B-2, C-17 and F-15 flight simulators
    • The program must be scheduled in advance and runs from Monday to Saturday for a group minimum of 10 and a maximum of 16 for $75 per person

Visitation and Tour Information

Admission to museum is free to veterans and civilians, and is open daily from 9am to 5pm. They are open 361 days a year, excluding Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. The museum is only open from 9am to 1pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

With the help of over 100 volunteers the museum is able to run seven days a week. Guided tours of one or more of the hangars that last 1.5 hours are available Tuesday to Saturday for a group minimum of 15 to a maximum of 100 for $3 per person. Other guided tours include the World War II Tour Program Featuring The Tuskegee Airmen and Family Life in America During WWII.

The museum provides resources to assist those interested in doing self-guided tours of the hangars with a self-guided walking tour guide, a Eagle Building scavenger hunt, and a World War II scavenger hunt. Motion simulator rides are also available for only $5.

The museum is home to the Victory Cafe which provides lunch specials, boxed lunches, and catering services. They are open from 11am to 2pm from Tuesday to Saturday. The cafe provides an excellent view of various aircraft as well as an observation deck for dining.

The Home Front Exchange is a gift shop on the premises that is open 9:30am t0 5pm on Monday to Saturday, and open from noon to 5pm on Sundays. The shop sells various items such as books, clothing, museum souvenirs, toys, and prints, where the funds raised directly benefit the museum.
