This past year, the public schools in Houston County GA scored better on every indicator tracked by the Georgia Education Scoreboard than the state as a whole. The scoreboard is a state-wide indicator that shows whether the district is meeting state education goals. Among other things, it tracks graduation rates, on-track rates, attendance, and science achievement.
Georgia law requires students attend a public, private school, or a home study program from their sixth to their 16th birthdays. Public Kindergarten is available in every school system, but it is not mandatory. All students graduating after 2011 will use the new Georgia Department of Education, Georgia Performance Standards curriculum.
