Now is the perfect time to start thinking about your options if you are planning to attend one of the middle Georgia colleges. With so many educational opportunities close by, it is both easy and affordable to get an education. Whether you’re fresh from high school, headed back to college after a break, or jumping in as a mature adult there are many local schools to choose from. Here is the list of middle Georgia colleges within an hour of Houston County Georgia.

Middle Georgia State College

Middle Georgia State CollegeMiddle Georgia State College has five campuses stretched over 150 miles in Middle Georgia. The state university has a 419 acre main campus located on College Station Drive in Macon, Georgia. The college also has a 71 acre campus on the corner of University Drive and Watson Boulevard in Warner Robins. The only state-funded aviation school in Georgia is located at the Eastman campus at 71 Airport Road. Other campuses include a Cochran campus at 1100 Second Street, S.E., and a Dublin campus at 1900 Bellevue Road.

The college was originally a junior state college, then was the largest undergraduate school in the area, and is now a five campus state university. It offers Associate, Bachelor, and Master Degrees, Certificates, and Career Programs. The college currently offers two Master’s Degrees, 19 Bachelor’s Degrees, and 19 Associate’s Degrees. Their offices and schools include Arts and Sciences, Aviation, Business, Education, Health Sciences, Information Technology, and Graduate Studies.

Middle Georgia State College also offers a student life program which provides a health clinic, wellness program, academic and career counseling, Greek life, over 30 student organizations, and a variety of sports to attending students.  Students interested in athletics can play on competitive teams in football, soccer, baseball, basketball, softball, tennis, volleyball, cross country, and even cheerleading.

Mercer University

Mercer UniversityMercer University has three major campus’ in Atlanta, Macon and Savannah, and three Regional Academic Centers in suburban Atlanta. Their Mercer Engineering Research Center is located in Warner Robins, Georgia.  Their main campus is located in Macon at 1400 Coleman Avenue, and has been there for nearly 140 years. There are also three medical schools located in Columbus, Macon, and Savannah.  The university offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, Post-Master’s, Doctoral, and Professional Degrees.

Their colleges and schools include Liberal Arts, Business and Economics, Engineering, Education, Music, Nursing, Continuing & Professional Studies, Law, Medicine, Pharmacy & Health Services, and Theology.

Also, Mercer offers many sports programs, which for men include: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, and tennis. For women’s sports there is basketball, beach volleyball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track, and volleyball.

The university offers interested students over 140 Greek Life and Campus Life organizations, which fall into the following categories: Academic, Club Sports/Recreation, Faith-Based, Governance, Honor Society, Media/Arts, Multicultural, Programming, Service, Social Greek, and Special Interest.

Georgia Military College

Georgia Military College is a liberal arts junior college with its main campus located at 201 E. Greene Street in Milledgeville, Georgia.  The college has eleven other campuses to include: Augusta, Columbus, Dublin, Fairburn, Fayetteville, Madison, Sandersville, Stone Mountain, Valdosta, Warner Robins, and an online campus.  The college began over 135 years ago as a junior college, and is one of only five military colleges in the nation.

GMC offers two Bachelor’s Degrees and 25 Associate’s Degrees with either a concentration in the Arts, Sciences, or Applied Sciences.  There are several AA, AS, and AAS degree choices that include but are not limited to Biology, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Information Technology, Pre-Nursing, and Social Work.

GMC also offers 25 student organizations which include the “Drama Club,” “Amateur Radio Club,” and “Adventure Club.” The athletic student programs provided by the college include cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, and even rifle.

Wesleyan College

Wesleyan CollegeWesleyan College is the world’s oldest women’s college and is located at 4760 Forsyth Road in Macon, Georgia.  Affiliated with the United Methodist Church, the school has been a historic landmark since 1993.

The college offers two undergraduate degree programs in the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Nursing with 31 majors and 28 minors. Students are allowed to combine two or more interdisciplinary major programs as well for a self-designed major.  The college also offers two graduate degrees to men and women in Master of Education in Early Childhood and Executive Master of Business Administration.

Wesleyan’s athletic program includes basketball, cross country, equestrian, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.  It offers residence housing, 22 special interest student organizations, two service organizations, three religious organizations, and Departmental Leadership Groups, Honor Societies, and Musical Groups.

Central Georgia Technical College

Central Georgia Technical College has three campuses with the primary campus located at 80 Cohen Walker Drive in Warner Robins, Georgia. The second campus is located at 3300 Macon Tech Drive in Macon, Georgia, and the third campus is located at 54 Highway 22 West in Milledgeville, Georgia. CGTC also has instructional centers in Roberta, Forsyth, Jeffersonville, Gray, and Eatonton. There are also workforce development centers in Hawkinsville and Fort Valley.

The college is a two-year commuter college and has been offering educational services for the past 50 years. CGTC offers over 190 degrees, diplomas or technical certificate programs in the following programs of study: Aerospace, Trade and Industry, Business and Computer Technologies, Health Sciences, Public Safety and Professional Services, and General Studies.

It has many student organizations to choose from, a fitness center, and offers basketball and cross country as its sports program.

CGTC also offers many joint programs with the charter school, Houston County Career Academy located at 1311 Corder Road in Warner Robins, Georgia. The program allows vocational students in high school to attend career preparation classes to include: Automotive, Business and Computer Science, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Health Care Science, Computer Networking, Engineering, Manufacturing, Electronics, Criminal Justice, Teaching as a Profession, and Metals Technology.
